JAMIPOL is a joint venture company, promoted by Tata Steel, SKW Stahl Metallurgie AG, Germany and Tai Industries, Bhutan for the production and marketing of Desulphurising Compounds (DCs) used by the Steel Industry for external desulphurisation of hot metal (liquid iron). The product is required for the production of low sulphur high quality steels to International Standards and helps in increasing productivity and reducing cost. The setting up of JAMIPOL plant marked the beginning of a new era for supporting Indian Steel Industry, where a high-tech product vital for the Steel Industry was made available indigenously.

JAMIPOL plant, located at Jamshedpur, was constructed at a capital cost of Rs. 20 Crores. The plant has a designed capacity of 45000 tpa of DC on three shifts operation basis. The plant is capable of producing DCs of highest quality incorporating the state of art technology under an exclusive licence and know-how agreement with SKW Stahl Metallurgie AG of Germany. The plant started commercial production in Apr.'98.  The Company has set-up a second unit of similar capacity at Toranagallu, District – Bellary, Karnataka.  The unit has become operational from early 2006. With this unit, JAMIPOL now has footprint over entire country and can meet demand of all steel plants coming up in near future.

JAMIPOL manufactures carbide based (CADs) and carbide & magnesium based (CAMs) and also supplies magnesium based (MAGs) DCs. The products are tailor made for specific customer requirement with varying degree of calcium carbide, lime, volatiles, slag conditioners depending upon the specific customer requirement. The CAMs have certain percentage of magnesium granules. The chemical composition is precisely controlled through a specially developed recipe software, which makes necessary adjustments to compensate for the variations in the raw material chemistry.

Before JAMIPOL came into existence, this material was being supplied by a Company called TECIL, located in Kerala, India while the premium quality material (CAD C) was being imported by Tata Steel from SKW, Germany.  The business model adopted by JAMIPOL resulted in immediate stoppage of imports and in closure of the TECIL plant within a short time. JAMIPOL, thus became the only manufacturer of this material in India with the premium grade material (CAD C) also in its product range.

JAMIPOL today caters to the entire domestic requirement of CADs, which include supplies to Tata Steel, SAIL and JSW Steel Ltd.  Besides the supply of DCs, JAMIPOL has also been providing application know-how and support service to its customers with assistance from its collaborator under the technology arrangement.

JAMIPOL has also obtained ISO 9001-2000, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification for both units.

In 2007, JAMIPOL had set itself an ambitious target of doubling its turnover by 2010, by being a total solution provider for the desulphurization technology.  Towards achieving this objective, JAMIPOL has ventured into the business of setting up of desulphurization (DS) stations with in house developed technology.  The first such plant has been commissioned in May’07.
